Things in the 2011 Defense Authorization

“National Guard border duty: Current language in the bill would force the president to send 6,000 National Guard troops to the country’s border with Mexico;

Abortion: It would permit privately funded, elective abortions to be performed in military hospitals, something allowed now only in cases of incest, rape or to save a woman’s life;

Iraq funding: The bill provides $1 billion less than requested for training Iraqi security troops. The progress of this training is important to the planned drawdown of U.S. combat troops over the next year; and

Second F-35 engine: President Barack Obama has threatened to veto any bill that includes a second engine for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, but the issue has its supporters in the Senate.”
